A Brief History of the Speedway

On May 30, 1946, the gates were opened for the first time. Seekonk Speedway has been family owned, operated, and promoted for 60 consecutive years. One of the most successful short track operations in the country, Seekonk Speedway is also known as "The Action Track of the East," "The Cement Palace," and "The Fast Track to Family Fun." Racing is scheduled for 26 weeks, starting in May and extending through October. Season ending specials include the "D. Anthony Venditti Memorial Festival of Racing" and the 2nd Annual Halloween Happening on Oct. 30th. The speedway has a capacity of 10,000 seats, with average season attendance of about 150,000. The track is 1/3 mile at the outside rim and 1320 feet at the inside line. The track is banked at 7 feet on four separate and distinct turns. The straights are 420 feet in length. At 72 feet, it is the widest track in New England. There are five divisions of race cars. The premiere division is the famous Pro Stocks that originated in 1978 - extending the Speedway's long line of firsts in auto racing.

New System for 2006

For the 2006 season, Seekonk Speedway purchased NCS's newest system, Tick-It! Trak Pro. The Trak Pro system provided a Point Of Sale (POS) for serialized ticketed entry, ticket validation and redemption, census head counting and transaction reporting. The system was a big improvement over the manual counting system used in prior seasons. Working in conjunction with POS Systems integrator Business Systems of New England, a long range, high speed wireless network was deployed through out the track facilities. This enabled direct ticket entry validation using wireless PDA's equipped with bar code scanners, to cut down on fraudulent entry by unscrupulous customers and ticket takers. Also, tire sales to racers were also handled by the Trak Pro system.

Improvements for 2007

For the 2007 season, Seekonk Speedway is launching its very own Internet Ticketing Website, powered by the Trak Pro system.  Additionally, new ticket expiration "triggers" have been added to handle even more specialty ticketing scenarios for the motor sports park, such as tickets that are good for any Saturday, or tickets that can be used once on any given number of days.
