The Difference Between a VOID and a RETURN

Performing a VOID on a Transaction COMPLETELY REVERSES THE ENTIRE TRANSACTION.  All of the line item details will be turned into COMMENTS, which have a zero value.  All of the merchandise items are returned, tickets cancelled and seats re-opened, memberships cancelled, gift cards voided and identical but OPPOSITE payment records entered to "back out" the original payments.  It is as if the whole thing never happened.

Performing a RETURN allows you to "pick and choose" line items to return, leaving other line items intact.  Performing a return generates a SECOND transaction record, showing what items have been returned, and how monies have been paid back to the customer.

THE BEST TIME TO USE A VOID:

If an entire transaction is a mistake, then the best time to perform a void is THE SAME DAY, at THE SAME STATION.  This will allow Trak Pro to actually cancel any credit card payments FROM YOUR DAILY BATCH, so the customer will never even see the charges on their account statements.  Voids performed on days FOLLOWING the day of the transaction can still be performed, but since any credit card payment will have already been processed by the credit card companies, you will have to put money back on their card manually, and the customer will see BOTH the Charge and Return on their statements.

THE BEST TIME TO USE A RETURN:

If the customer or operator has only made a mistake on one or two items of a large and complex order, then a RETURN is the best way to go to correct things.
